FAQs
I'm not very confident at speaking, does that matter? Absolutely not! We want people to come and practice what they know, you will be with people of a similar level to you and there's no pressure to speak if you'd rather mainly listen during the classes.
What happens in the classes? We play games like Articulate in the foreign languages, tailored to the level of that class, alongside an informal debate based around that week's theme for the class. Advanced classes tend to just have free-flowing conversations.
When and where do the classes take place? Our Italian classes take place on Wednesday evenings at Arthur's Coffee House in Ravenscourt Park. Lower intermediate classes are at 6pm, upper intermediate at 7pm and advanced at 8pm.
How long are the classes? Each class lasts 50 minutes.
How many people are in each class? We cap our classes at just six people, alongside a native speaker as our teacher.
Which class is right for me?
Lower Intermediate (A2) - You can have basic conversations about everyday topics and understand simple questions and answers. You know common vocabulary and grammar, but you often need time to think and you may struggle to express more complex ideas.
Upper Intermediate (B1) - You can hold a conversation on familiar topics and express yourself in full sentences. You have a good foundation but still have gaps in your vocabulary and grammar, particularly when conversations become more detailed or spontaneous.
Advanced (B2+) - You can speak comfortably on a wide range of topics and keep the flow of a conversation going with little effort. You can express your opinions, tell stories and discuss more complex ideas without regularly searching for words.
When are tickets released for the classes? They are released a week before the class. Everyone who attends a class gets first option to buy a ticket for the following week before they are released on the website.
Can I arrive at the cafe before my class starts? Absolutely, the garden is always open if you'd like to sit outside with a drink before or after your class.
What happens if I buy a ticket but can no longer make a class? If you let us know at least a day in advance, we will give you the option to exchange it for another class in the future. Unfortunately, if you let us know on the day we won't be able to offer an exchange as we then struggle to sell the ticket to someone else.
